Day 9 | Our Daily Bread

When I listed the contents of my pantry a few days back you might have noticed it.

We don't buy our bread.

This is a fairly recent phenomenon in our house.  Starting in May we were both making our own and still buying a loaf.  But one week we did the unthinkable.  We just said no to the grocery store bread.  And we never looked back.

I have to remind you we have a bread machine.  If we didn't, there is a good chance we wouldn't be making our own bread.  There are a couple of no-knead bread recipes out there {which I will link to below} that sound wonderful.  We tried one but it didn't rise very well, and with our go-to Breadman waiting on the sidelines to take over, we just never tried again.

I have made bread by hand.  Several times.  I highly recommend it for toning your arms.  It's good for kneading away frustrations.  But...it was never quite as good as the bread machine bread.

So there it is.  We don't buy our bread.  We make it.  Only we cheat and use a machine.

If you've never made your own bread you have to try it sometime.  Even if your bread turns out hard as a rock, the silver lining is there is nothing in the world that can compare to the smell of freshly baked bread.

  1. You're right - nothing beats homemade bread! Thanks for the links, too. I'm always on the lookout for new resources. :)
